안녕하세요. Hello! I hope life is treating you well. I am so sorry I cannot provide a Korean version of this letter to you from the Counter Ban for Park Shin Yang this time.
First, the Parents’ Day 어버이날 is coming up on May 8th . Either you are celebrating with your parents or are being celebrated with, or both, I wish you and your beloved ones a wonderful family time!
Today co-marks the 5th month since the Corea Drama Production Association (CODA) imposed a permanent suspension on Mr. Park Shin Yang’s involvement in future Korean TV drama productions on Dec 5th, 2008, and the 3rd month since this site sent you its first email “서문: ‘Counter Ban for Park Shin Yang’ 누구세요” on Feb 5th, 2009.
May I also direct your attention to a new active poll up in Yahoo!Korea:
Over 31600 voted against this ban on Mr. Park. This is a pretty commanding public response.
Mr. Park’s and Miss Moon’s latest SBS drama, “Painter of the Wind”(2008), has been receiving favourable ratings and great comments in Taiwan. Mr. Park and other cast have been gaining new supporters since the airing of the drama. Needless to say, exisiting fans also go wild! If you can understand Chinese, it is truly exciting to look at the feedbacks and comments of the viewers in TTV’s drama forum (http://bb.ttv.com.tw/bb/viewtopic.asp?forum=312&topic=313367&Page=25) and Mr. Park’s unofficial fansite (http://www.psy4u.com/freeboard/login.asp) in Taiwan. E.g. a supporter of Mr. Park (since his “Lovers in Paris”(2004) drama) has started to write a synopsis and critique on every aspect (plot, art (drawings, colors, content), acting, location, culture, music, instruments etc) of each episode of the “Painter of the Wind” (http://www.psy4u.com/freeboard/dispbbs.asp?boardID=38&ID=5447&page=1) and this series has sparked many interesting thoughts and communications since then. Mr. Park’s versatile acting skills has once again brought many touching, exciting, intriguing and refreshing moments to the viewers. Isn’t this the dream of every drama cast and crew – to obtain nice ratings, generate genuine conversations and sincere interests, revive existing supporters and gather new soulmates via the drama?
By banning others, you ban yourself from others.
By respecting others, you earn yourself respect from others.
Please cherish Mr. Park who has contributed his excellence of acting through dramas and films, set up scholarships for the younger Theatre students in his alta mater Dongguk University and soon will be lecturing the new generations in the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) with Professor Bruce Baek (also a Film Writer&Director) – how exciting is that – being educated by two world-class performing arts masters (and I really envy the fortunate students who can learn first hand from and have so much fun with two sharp, smart, charming, seasoned, talented, articulated, awesome 교수님)! Embrace Mr. Park and you will become bigger and stronger than ever. I hope you will be a happy and fair news messanger very soon!
KBS, MBC and SBS, please encourage other production companies to approach Mr. Park for sophisticated drama stories. There is no reason why you cannot air top-notched dramas participated by Mr. Park. Get Mr. Park back on TV screen with new dramas is a dignified act and will be one of the wisest and most rewarding decisions you make in your career.
This email will be followed up like the last one sent to you on Apr 5th and the previous ones: if we don’t hear from you, in 2 weeks, on May 19th, we will follow up with an email of your latest plan. If there is no response by May 26th, then we take this as your asking for a 5th campaign to launch on June 5th.
‘Counter Ban for Park Shin Yang’ will repeat the campaign cycle monthly until Mr. Park’s ban is lifted.
How we act next is determined by how you respond today.
Please allow me to reiterate that ‘Counter Ban for Park Shin Yang’ gives you the time and power to prevent all our actions from happening: you and you alone can stop us: announce through the same media / news channels you used for the announcement of the ban news that CODA has reversed the ban decision on Mr. Park Shin Yang – let him pursue his legal rights without hindrances; let him partake future Korea TV drama productions without restrictions.
Mr. Park Shin Yang is a South Korea treasure. He is so well received in other countries. His successful fan meetings in Japan in April, this email, and other Counter Ban supporter emails from all over the world are living proofs of this fact. Please cherish him.
Last but not least, happy Parents’ Day to you all once again. Until then, take care and good bye. 감사합니다.
On behalf of all the participants of the Counter Ban for Park Shin Yang
